If no wax found, it's just a consultation fee of £20
If you have noticed symptoms such as hearing loss, fullness of the ears, pain or itchiness, it could well mean that the wax has unfortunately become too much for it to disperse naturally of its own accord. It's nothing to worry about and actually occurs very often. In fact, around 2.3 million people per year need ear wax removed in the UK.
Earwax is made of secretions from cerumen and sebaceous glands under the skin. It mixes with dead skin cells as it migrates to the outer opening, and its function oddly enough, is to clean the ear canal, protect the ear drum from infection, and also from foreign bodies such as insects that may fly in! Most of the time, once it gets near to the outer end of the ear canal, it dries up and falls out without us really knowing when it does. However, sometimes our ears can feel a bit itchy, and typically many of us use cotton buds to try and clear out the wax or satisfy that itch (yes, we all know we shouldn't, but do it anyway, me included!). What actually happens is that some of the wax comes out, and the rest gets pushed further along the ear canal, where it can not be retrieved with a cotton bud (or tweezers, or paper clips, or mini screw drivers!! Yes - I know!), and the wax becomes more compact. This is where I can help you.
Hi, I’m Allan. I am a trained, certified and fully insured ear wax removal clinician, and very passionate about providing you with the highest quality of care and attention possible.
I offer a tailored consultation to cater for your wax removal requirements, and using the latest tools and techniques, I’ll have you hearing a pin drop in no time!. I have worked in a clinical setting for around 20 years as a registered Dispensing Optician, so I know first hand how it can be daunting for many people to use a service such as this, but rest assured you’re in safe hands!
I have proudly been certified by UK Microsuction following successful completion of their course, giving me all the necessary knowledge, skills and tools needed to help me remove your blocked ear wax safely. I also have a great support network of hundreds of other earwax removal clinicians.
Once we have had a brief discussion about your history and symptoms, I will carry out a thorough assessment of the outer ear, look into each ear canal to see the level of earwax present. This is done with an Otoscope which is a hand held device that uses a brightly lit magnifying lens. I will also use a digital Otoscope to show you before and after photos on the screen.
I will then determine the best method of removal, either by microsuction, warm water irrigation, or a combination of both. I may also need to use various tools to manually manouver or remove the wax. Once the ear canal is clear, I will use the Otoscope again to check the ear drum looks normal. You will then be given an aftercare information sheet.
Microsuction involves using a small tube to gently vacuum out the wax, whereas warm water irrigation gently pulsates water into the ear to help flush the wax out, like giving your ear canal a nice warm bath! Whatever method is used, it will be fully explained as we go.
I have converted part of my living room at my humble home in Welling into a purpose built clinic, with a nice comfy chair for you to relax in while I work on removing your earwax. When you arrive, there is a small but comfortable waiting area, which is curtained off from the treatment area, where you can help yourself to some complimentary refreshments.
There is usually plenty of free street parking, and if my driveway is empty you are welcome to park there for the duration of your appointment. There is full wheelchair access into the house.
I'll aim to remove the wax in one appointment, however if it's particularly jammed in the ear, it may require one more visit. If this is the case, there will be no charge for this follow-up appointment.
