Why you have blocked ears...
If you have noticed symptoms such as hearing loss, fullness of the ears, pain or itchiness, it could well mean that the wax has unfortunately become too much for it to disperse naturally of its own accord. It’s a common and easily treatable issue. In fact, around 2.3 million people per year need ear wax removed in the UK.
Earwax is made of secretions from cerumen and sebaceous glands under the skin. It mixes with dead skin cells as it migrates to the outer opening, and its function oddly enough, is to clean the ear canal, protect the ear drum from infection, and also from foreign bodies such as insects that may fly in! Most of the time, once it gets near to the outer end of the ear canal, it dries up and falls out without us really knowing when it does. However, sometimes our ears can feel a bit itchy, and typically many of us use cotton buds to try and clear out the wax or satisfy that itch. It's a habit the many people have picked but what actually happens is that some of the wax comes out, and the rest gets pushed further along the ear canal, where it can not be retrieved with a cotton bud, and the wax becomes more compact. This is where I can help you.

Safe Microsuction & Water Irrigation...
Once we have had a brief discussion about your history and symptoms, I will carry out a thorough assessment of the outer ear. Using specialist otoscopes, and magnification tools, I will examine each ear canal to see the level of earwax present, and can show you before and after photos on the screen.
I'll then determine the best method of removal, either by microsuction, warm water irrigation, or a combination of both. I may also need to use various tools to manually manouver or remove the wax. Once the ear canal is clear, I will use the Otoscope again to check the ear drum looks normal.
Microsuction involves using a small tube to gently vacuum out the wax, where as warm water irrigation gently pulsates water into the ear to help flush the wax out, like giving your ear canal a nice warm bath! Whatever method is used, it will be fully explained as we go.

This clinic is located at my home in Welling, featuring a dedicated,
purpose-built clinical space designed for your comfort and privacy. There is plenty of off-street parking, and full wheelchair access into the house.
This clinic is by appointment only and operates on Mondays, and Wednesdays between 8.15am and 2.15pm
Clinic 2 - Second Sight Opticians
Located in the heart of Welling High Street, next door to Morrisions, is Second Sight Opticians where I open the clinic every Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. Parking is easy as Morrisons and Tesco (opposite) give you 2 hours for free!
This clinic is by appointment but I will take walk-ins if time is available.
I allocate 40 mins per appointment, and aim to clear your ears in the first one, however if the wax is particularly jammed in the ear, it may require another visit. If this is the case, the first return appointment will be half price, and any further follow-ups needed for that specific blockage will be free of charge.
